Spectrum Examiner

Application Details

Spectrum Examiner is a new tool in the SmartMap software, specifically designed to ensure that elements from minor phases are identified in your sample. It will identify:
Major elements in isolated phases,
Major elements whose concentration varies through the sample,
Elements present in discrete phases,
Minor and overlapped elements
Spectrum examiner is seen as a blue overlay onto the sum spectrum. Peaks in the blue overlay correspond to elements in the sample.
This overlay is calculated by a new algorithm that highlights X-rays where the intensity varies over the sample area.

The example shows a spectrum from a mineral sample. The sum spectrum has identified a large number of elements in this sample, but when the spectrum examiner is added, peaks at Aluminium and Arsenic are clearly seen.

Adding the X-ray maps for these elements shows that they are present in isolated phases.

Spectrum Examiner functionality is standard in the Mapping Navigator
Spectrum Examiner shows extreme values of intensity in comparison to the average over the field. This method works more effectively even where the counting statistics are poor.
